Alright, so I started writing the script but I only got to page 2 before I got some drive to write the book. Who knows! I might actually write them at the same time. I will be honest with you all, I’m a little nervous. I haven’t heard from my editor since paying for the final edit of The Hunt, upfront. Now I say this in a concerning manner in the sense that she may be otherwise busy and not able to make the deadline I have in my head for the release date of Sept 25th on Amazon. I really hope everything is going okay for her and she gets back to me soon. Otherwise, I will have to push back the release date. 😞
Today is all about errands and house work. If I’m not dead on my feet by the end of it, I will try and get some pages in tonight. Have a fantastic Saturday, guys!

I am so weak. I succumbed to the itch and tick and urge and started writing the script I so desperately wanted to start. I will be honest, I really wanted to be done with the book series, which meant I had to finish writing third book. I just was NOT feeling it. I’ve had this happen before, so don’t worry, it doesn’t mean I WONT write it, just not this minute. Trust me, you want me to have my heart into it when I write the last book of the series I’ve been working on for about 15 years. Not to mention every time I tried to work on it, my kids were begging for more snacks or some other form of attention or I simply was too dang tired. Screenwriting, like I’ve said before, is so much easier to do with other things going on around me.
I am SUPER excited about this script too. It will be an Action with a female powerful lead. Not much in the way of comedy, like most action movies have been, I’ve found, that have female leads. It seems like most of the action that revolves around a woman has to have some sort of comedy, which doesn’t seem right. I could just be sheltered with my choice of movies though. So here I am. Already a page in and it’s awesome! This weekend is full of chores to do around the house but I hope to score some time at Starbucks to write, too. Hope you all have a great weekend and catch you later! Today was my oldest’ first day of school. Though she woke up at 4:30AM because she was “hungry” and we all woke up at 5:30AM (except the baby, go figure) she had a good morning and got on the bus on time with all the necessary supplies. I told her she would be eating hot lunch all year, no matter what. I made her lunch all school year for the last two years and it was always the same thing, per her request: hot dog, yogurt and maybe an applesauce or string cheese. She would never try anything different or new. Of course, she complained of wanting me to pack something different but there wasn’t much I could do when I was limited to something cold and she wouldn’t eat sandwiches or cold nuggets. 🤷♀️ This year, I said “hell no” to that. She needs to try new things and this is the only way I know how to do that. No, I don’t expect her to eat everything, and yes, I fully anticipate her to starve some days.... maybe most, but she will have to learn to eat what she is given at school, like the rest of the world and people have done during their school careers if she doesn’t want to go hungry. I told her that she got a point for everything new she tried at school. If she got 5 points by the end of the week, she could have a frosty from Wendy’s (her fav) on Sat/Sun. I think that was a good deal. At least to start. I seriously don’t want my kid to live off of hot dogs. Yes, she has sensory issues with her tastebuds but for real. There is more to the world than nuggets, meat balls (plain) and hot dogs. 🤦♀️
I expect her home in the next 30 minutes and I hope she tells me she tried the hot lunch, at least SOMETHING on her plate. I also have to remember to write the school a check for meals. I STILL have not figured out my login on their parents portal or whatever it is. The old school, it worked, but not so much with the new school. My login info has never worked. I guess I should take care of that....after all, I am a parent. 😔 Anyways, I have gotten a lot of advertising done for my book, but I would love for it to gain more attention. I am working on a few things now but it’s all in the planning. I have high hopes for it. In other news, I have to wake up my littles from their late nap and deal with their cranky butts for the new 30 minutes until my oldest comes home to add whatever mood she might bring home with her from school. Wish me luck! What is an ARC? Advanced Reading Copy of a book. Usually given to a reader in exchange of an early book review. I currently have a couple people reading it right now and am looking for one or two more. Early reviews go a long way to help promote a book and draw more audience/readers. Same with Pre-Orders, they both help a new book succeed. If you are interested in doing an early review of The Hunt, please email/message me. 😊
Ive given myself a deadline to finish the first draft of the book for the middle of September and I’m only on page 39 now. I think that’s a total of 4 pages done in a week. Granted, we all got a cold and had farm work to do during that time, but still. It’s so hard to get into the groove and work on descriptives when my kids are running amok around me. I have tried so hard to find a part time nanny, but so far it’s been hard to nail one down. I think once school starts for Korben, I will put Adalyn into daycare twice a week a couple hours a day. This way, she can work on her language skills. Her brother and sister have/had issues speaking and I am starting to see it in her. I would like to try school before going through all the referrals and testing it takes to get speech therapy that didn’t really work for my kids until they started going to school. I think it would really help. And, bonus, I can get a couple solid hours in of child free writing while everyone is at school. 😃
I want so bad to write that script, guys. I can’t tell you how much easier it is to write a script with the kids around than it is to write a book. With the lack of detailed descriptions I am able to write so much faster. Dialogue flows so much more fluid, too. But I REALLY want to see this series done, complete. Not just for me, but for my readers. I started this story when I was in England with my sister and brother-in-law for a few months in 2003. That’s 16 years this story has been brewing and in the works. It started as a dream I had, like most of them do, and now it’s got two books. It needs one more to finish the story. JUST ONE! In a way, it sounds like a piece of cake, and in another, it sounds like running a full marathon and I am the opposite of “in shape” at the moment. 😂 🏃♀️ Anyways, here is to a page a day. I usually have a goal of 3 pages a day with scripts, but 1 page in book writing, with all the kids around and all the farm animals right now, sounds like a more achievable, yet still challenging, goal. Wish me luck, guys! Today’s post will divert from the usual writing stuff. My rabbits are kept in a small shed with an air conditioner and screened vent windows. They are kept at just the right temperature, get plenty of sunlight with the glass windows and plenty of fresh air. That said, we have a really bad biting fly issue around here. Living by a dairy, it’s even worse than you can probably imagine. The whole neighborhood has problems with them. Anyways, I have put sticky traps on the windows, there are fly traps (2) hanging on the back side of the shed and I keep a pretty clean rabbitry. I ordered a solar bug zapper and it finally arrived. I am so thankful because it just seems to be getting worse. The flies that manage to get in lay eggs and that’s what we really don’t want, for them to lay eggs in the rabbitry where the new flies will bite the most, the rabbits themselves. Today, with the “help” of my oldest daughter, I cleaned the rabbit pans and added cedar chips as a top layer to the bedding, which helps deter insects in general and a good sprinkle of Diatomaceous Earth, a natural pest control. It doesn’t help with flies themselves but I think it helps with the larvae that do hatch. The tiny particles can shred vulnerable bugs like slugs and larvae, or so I’m told. 😂 Anyways, I have to wait until bedtime to mount the bug zapper, and I can not wait. Those effers bite me too when I am in there taking care of the rabbits. And they hurt just as bad as mosquitos do. 😠
In other news, there’s a big possibility that our youngest goat, Lily (the white one) is pregnant and not fat. 😟 I’m not prepared for a goat delivery. I’m sure we have at least two or three more months before anything actually happens but in order to really know for sure, we would have to get an ultrasound. So there’s really nothing to do but wait and see. Her weight isn’t too bad to be concerned anyways and she’s a happy healthy goat, so I’m not going to worry about it until any of that changes. Right now, my older kids are playing nicely together on the back porch, where the temperature is perfect and the shade is still covering them. It’s gorgeous outside right now. This town might be small and a lot of things might be closed on Sundays, but I love our little homestead. Annnd the moment’s gone. Time to go stop my son from writing on the screen door with orange chalk. 🙄 Have a Good Friday tomorrow, everyone! “I must have projected the thought pretty loudly because the next thing I knew he gripped the handle near my head to pull himself close, his nose nearly touching mine. Not moving another inch, he waited there for something, just searching my face. I almost opened my mouth to ask what it was he was looking for when a need washed over me to do something I’d never done before with a boy. The ends of his shoulder length hair that hung forward a little, brushing his jaw, called out for me to lift my own hand and found myself touching it. Faintly, at first, with just my finger tips and then when that wasn’t enough, I combed them through the bulk of it to rake back to the nape of his neck. At that exact moment, we moved to one another like magnets.”

I finally settle in to finish writing the third book in the Descending series (I get two more pages done) and suddenly I have a fantastic idea for a good action feature script. Ugh. I am so excited about this story, too. It’s a new genre for me as well, so all sorts of new things for me to try my hand in. But nope, I have to wait until after I finish writing the book. It’s not that I don’t like the story I’m writing for the book, I do, but it’s also been told in my head for that last ten years or more. The book would take a while to write and I just want to get started on this new script. I won’t. I didn’t that last script, I put off writing this book to write The Attrition, I think, which was only supposed to be a short. 🙄 Anyways, I’m going to attack the writing of this last book so I can get to the script I am dying to write and share with others. I am also starting new advertising for The Hunt this week, so stay tuned for announcements, blurbs and sneak peaks. Hope everyone is having a great Monday. Again, short blog today, probably will be short for the rest of the summer break, 1.5 weeks left to go! Eeeek! Know what’s surprisingly nice? Finding out that you made Semi-Finalist with your Short (Chimera) in the Table Read Your Script-Hollywood competition when you thought you didn’t place at all.
Backstory: I Submitted my script through FilmFreeway and the only thing I got back from them was when the contest coordinators simply marked that my script wasn’t accepted. When they should have marked it Semi-Finalist apparently because I got an email yesterday congratulating me for making semi-finalist in the ISA (International Screenwriters Association) competition. So I guess through ISA (the main host of the competition) I got the award. Woot! The prize, apparently, was a free online writing course. Which I will probably utilize this weekend. Yesterday I didn’t get much writing done. After the fair in the morning, I was drained. Then, while back at the fair in the afternoon, I found I was getting sick Yay. So now, with a head cold, I hope to just get this blog entry done and maybe a couple pages if the Sudafed and energy keep up through nap time. I love Fridays because my husband will be home tomorrow and that usually means we get family time and a lot of work gets done around the house by either both or one of us as the other hangs with the kiddos. Have a great Friday everyone! Hope the weekend is awesome, too. I officially finished editing the second draft of The Hunt in time for the Betas. This morning will be me taking my kiddos to the county fair (small town) and checking out some rides, games and 4H animals. I’m mostly excited about the animals. During nap today I will work on Transcending From Light. I left it at page 27 I believe. I still have my outline and am sticking to it. I’m excited to finish this story once and for all. This has been a story that I dreamt up when I was in England visiting my sister in 2003, so yeah, a long time coming. Of course, I decide to finish it when I have three kids running about. I hope to have this story written and first draft done by the end of September and have a publishing day of mid-December. Once between edits, while the editor has it, I will be working on scripts again. I have one more edit to work on for Attrition and notes to work with on that. Then I can start a new one. I wrote a short novella about 15 years ago that I think I can convert into a Hallmark/Netflix sort of movie script. It definitely has a Hallmark feel to it.
My biggest challenge are my kids. I have a ton of people asking me how I write with kids around me and how I also have farm animals (now) and still get things done with my writing. I seriously can only shrug and say that I guess I am more of a self-starter when it comes to times of work. I don’t sit down and procrastinate or hang out on Twitter like I do when the kids are in school. When I can, I work outside with the animals while the kids are awake and they can play with the dogs or back yard toys while I pick up poop, feed or change bedding for the rabbits, groom them, etc. Then, when nap time happens, it’s all writing. The weekends have become more hectic as I basically have to force my husband to get into work gear so we can get stuff done and I can write during nap. But that should settle down once all of our major projects are complete, we should just have regular chores to take care of. And now I have to go protect a dog from my toddler’s grabby hands. 🙄 |
