Conflictions of an Author: You write a story, the first in a series, and you publish it for the world to deem it worthy or not. Surprisingly, it gets a pretty good review and following for a new, indie-published author. Taking all the commentary from reviewers, you develop a second and a third book, but you know you aren't doing the original story justice by keeping to the tone it's been set in, which was great for the story at the time, for the upcoming books. So, you take a leap, and huge risk, by changing the genre so no one is surprised when you add more adult language, sex (though I'm trying to keep an implicit tone for that), and another main character and you HOPE your fans wont hate it. You PRAY you wonder anger those who have fallen in love with the original character and love story. And you BEG the powers that be out there, that this wont be the downfall of your writing career. All that said, I am constantly reminding myself that I'm not just writing this story for the story fans. I'm also writing this for me. This was a dream I had when I was twenty, woke up and wrote a one page short story to remind myself later when I wanted to actually write it. A few days later I added a few pages, then nothing for another five years. Then I added a whole other 150 pages. It was just the climax and ending I was missing, which didn't get finished until 8 years later, when someone recommend I finish the novel before turning it into a script, which I still have plans for. Here I am, nine months later, I have a pretty significant, to me at least, fan following for The Hunt series. I try to answer their questions in the next books, sealing up plot holes when they were pointed out to me, or offering closure when I didn't in the previous book. But in this, I am going to have to take a large risk and write it how it was meant to be, like I had been. Young Adult comes with a lot of restrictions and expectations, let me tell you. But I want to try and honor the story and characters for the fans who have fallen love with them. I hope this makes sense. I am writing a particularly turning point sort of scene right now in Truce and I really hope it doesn't upset you all. Thanks for reading. #indieauthor #writingcommunity #selfpublished Here it is you all! I'm so excited to share this with everyone on 8/15. If you want an early preview, SIGN UP FOR MY NEWSLETTER.
Truce is already available for Pre-Order on Amazon and is set to release on September 30th. Email me a proof of pre-order of Truce to [email protected] and I will send you a deleted chapter on the eve of release day. Howdy! I thought I'd share some things on here for anyone who cares.
First, I've added stuff to the store now, so check that out if you wanted a signed copy of some books, swag and even book covers for the indie-authors out there. I have been dabbling with some minor graphic designing for book covers, lately, and I thought I'd share the ones that weren't terrible for authors to use on a low budget. Next up, I am over halfway done with Truce, so expect that to be out and available for your reading pleasure come the beginning of October. I hope to also have the last book of the Descending series done in November/December time, as well. I have plans of a spin off series of Gearden and Maeleigh's story that I will write at the same time as you don't have to follow Maeleigh's last few stories to read the spin off, title TBA. It will be YA though and sooo soo good, I am chomping at the bit to write it but have some things to finish first. Then, there is Beneath the Surface. It's coming out in 15 days, and I wanted to make sure that you all get your ebook copy for the sale price of $2.99 before it goes up on release day. Pre-Order HERE Finally, sign up for the newsletter and once I get to 50 subscribers, I will do a random drawing of just the subscribers each month. Eeek! Let me know what things you'd like to see in the giveaways. I already have a few things in mind that will be awesome. ARCs for Beneath the Surface are all claimed! The first few reviews have trickled in, Two 4 stars, one 5 star and one 3 star. Hoping for more 4 and 5s of course, but not bad so far. Fingers crossed it continues to be good feedback.
The next exciting thing is to be sure to pre-order your copy before the price increases on it's release date, July 31st. If you're not sure if you'll like it, there are a few reviews for you to check out on Goodreads HERE. Next up, I am halfway through the first draft of Truce: Book 1 in the Aftermath series, the next chapter in Gearden and Maeleigh's story. I have the first chapter (unedited) available for anyone who is interested in reading it, but copies are limited, so first come, first serve. Lastly, if you're looking for signed copies of The Hunt and The Chase, as well as some swag, there's a special bundle made just for you HERE. Thanks for checking in! I will have more soon.
