It finally arrived! My Award of Merit from the Los Angeles Cinema Festival of Hollywood finally arrived. It's currently hanging on my office wall now. Framed. Not quite laminated, but close enough.
I also found that, unfortunately, Summons was NOT picked up as a Finalist with the Austin Revolution film festival, but just making Semi Finalist is more than enough for me. Another competition rejected my script, however it came with really good useful notes, which I've been looking forward to for a while now. Finally, a professional screenwriter or producer has read it and gave me feedback. Cliffnotes version, they liked the idea, characters, some details. There was one big flaw that was easily changed and I have already resubmitted it for a second shot. Fingers crossed that goes a little farther this go around. Next up, I'm about halfway done with my feature screenplay I've been working on for the last two weeks or so. I'm excited for how that's developing. But... before I finish that, I'm taking a little detour to work on another project. I've teamed up with someone to work on another series pilot. It's political, which isn't really something I'd normally go for, at all, but we both bring different aspects to the table and it could compliment well for the story. Another new learning experience every minute. I'm kind of getting an idea of what it would be like to work in a writers room, I think, if I were ever to work in one for a show. That is, if luck is on my side. ;) Rest assured, I stocked up on my caffiene supply, as well as the half & half. I should be ok for the duration of the project. I may need to got to bed early tonight though. Phew! Typing at night are the most productive because the kids are asleep. Ha! I'm not kidding. Parents, you all understand.

Hey everybody! I know I just did an entry yesterday but that was BEFORE I got word from the Austin Revolution Film Festival that Summons got bumped to Semi-Finalist! They have a few more days of judging for the Finalists and Winners. I am just so over the moon. I literally submitted to most of these contests thinking that I am an ameteur, which I still am, and needing professional feedback, "Please, tell me where I've screwed up and how bad it sucks" mentality.
The day after I came home from my Mommy Vacay I received an email congradulating me on earning an Award of Merit for my pilot script, Summons. I was floored. I'm STILL floored. I honestly submitted it for cheaper editing/feedback that was included in the festival/contest. The fesival was called Los Angeles Film Festival of Hollywood. They've been hosting film festivals for 8 years now and my script is listed under the award winners page on their website at: http://hollywoodcff.com/2017_winners_%28Summer%29.html
To see my script and name listed was very surreal. Now, I'm honestly expecting something like a glorified consolation sticker in the mail (they had requested my mailing address to send me my award) but STILL! So, after this, I have done some editing of my own and a screenwriter friend, and feel it is in much better standing now to win or developed further in the contests it's entered into, than it did with the LA Hollywood one. I am currently working on a feature, unintentionally, and am curious how that will turn out. It's full of time travel, without the science of it (I know, I'm sad about that too ;) ) love, and war, sorta. Bioweapons too! Ooooooooh. Today was a break with the kids and parents. 4th of July fun at the fair. I will enjoy the fireworks from my dining room table, with wine and my iPad as I write in front of the window, looking out at the fireworks going off in my back yard....and front yard. And side yards. Sigh.... I will have to Benadryl all the animals, both two and four legged. Wish this momma luck! Happy 4th of July/Independence Day to you all! Alainna~ |
